An employer cannot fire you because you filed a workers compensation claim.

However, your employer can fire you if it has a good business reason for firing you that is unrelated to your workers compensation claim. For example, if a doctor has put you out of work for a long period of time and that time exceeds the twelve weeks allowed under the Family Medical Leave Act, your employer can fire you for excessive absences. However, being fired does not prevent you from proceeding with your workers compensation claim.
