Did you know that some automobile dealers charge a “closing fee” when you purchase a new or used vehicle?
Dealers use different names for this fee. Some call it a “document fee”. These fees can range from $299 to $699. These types of “add-on” fees are not allowed by the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs unless the dealer can prove that the fee is charged for the reimbursement of actual dealer costs. Most dealers cannot prove this. They charge the fee as additional profit, generally after the buyer has already come to an agreed price.
Check your paperwork before you sign.
You can refuse to pay this fee. If you have already purchased a vehicle and were charged a closing fee, give Attorney Sid Connor a call at 1-866-465-3666 for a free consultation as to your legal rights.
